Sign Club put on a little program for our principle, Mr. Polston and their teachers!! What a great group of students!! We have so much fun in Sign Club...I have a total of 82 students who are learning sign. Here we are showing how we know all of our ABC's. We also finger spelled our names and said the Pledge of Allegiance.

While we are getting closer to our spring break, we are still hard at work! In Math we are learning about Geometry. We are learning about angles, congruent, obtuse, right and acute. We also are learning about symmetry and in the picture above you can see that we had a fun project with paint and a piece of paper folded in half. (We placed a few dots of paint on one side of the paper and re-folded the paper over the paint. We then pushed the paint around with our fingers ... opened up the paper and whola ...beauty at its finest...) SYMMETRY

We have been working very hard in our Writers Workshop creating our very own "All About" book. During the last few weeks we have been reading non fiction stories about things that interest us. We have been keeping a planning sheet that lets us write down our ideas and information that we need to put in our book. The students then are making a poster at home, with their parents, about their chosen unit of study. The student I am working with picked "All About Gorillas". During our research about Gorillas, we learned of a gorilla named Koko. Koko had a teacher by the name of Penny. Penny had Koko since she was a baby and taught her sign language. The student is so excited to find a "text to self" connection and loves learning about Koko. Once the books and posters are finished we will invite the parents and grandparents to visit our gallery and see the students hard work.

We visited Koko's website and it is so interesting...please take some time to visit and spend some time learning about this very interesting and amazing gorilla. I have added the link for your convience.

The year is more that half over and the students in Mrs. Egli's class is still hard at work! We are starting a new Readers Workshop unit and Junie B. Jones is front and center. For all you readers out there...if you love a good story, you need to read a Junie B. Jones chapter book by, Barbara Park. These stories are fun to interpret, I read the story ahead of time and then when we read it together in class, I am prepared to interpret...sometime I fall behind and other times I get ahead, depending of if the student/students understand all the concepts. I sometime add a visual by drawing some of the more abstract concepts. This a great unit of study and the students can't to hear the next chapter. We are reading "Junie B. Jones is a Graduation Girl".
